This article explains how to upgrade your university-own computer to Windows 11.
This article is for users with a device that is compatible with Windows 11.
1. If your device is compatible with Windows 11, you will receive an "Upgrade to Windows 11" shortcut on your desktop:
2. Run this to request the upgrade to Windows 11.
3. You will receive a prompt to confirm the request.
Important note for Websis users: If you are a Websis user, please cancel this now as the application is not compatible with Windows 11 even if your device is.
4. Some final checks will be completed for device compatibility.
If successful you will receive the following message: "The process of updating to Windows 11 has started, and should start to install within 24 to 48 hours".
If the upgrade request fails you will receive the following error: "The Windows 11 Upgrade application has not been found, please contact ServiceLine if you believe your device should be compatible".
1. The update request should be processed within 24 hours and then the next time your device checks for updates – usually when you next login – it will pick up the Windows 11 update.
The downloading process will happen in the background without any impact on your activities. If you want, you can check the progress by doing the following actions:
Once the downloading process is finished, your status will change from “Downloading” to “Installing”.
This part of the process will happen in the background without any impact on your activities.
If you want, you can check it by opening the “Update and security” section as explained in Step 2.
When the process is finished, Windows will display a notification.
You will also see the update icon (a screen with 2 round arrows within it and an orange circle on the down-right corner of the icon) in the notification area:
Now you need to restart your computer.
Select the icon to open the “Windows Update” screen. From there you can restart your computer or schedule a day / time to make it happen automatically.
At this point your computer will reboot a few times, then you will see Window 11 on your machine.
