How do I access an Office 365 shared/generic mailbox on iOS (iPhone/iPad)?

To access an Office 365 shared mailbox on iOS (iPhone/iPad):

  1. Go to Settings > Mail > Accounts.
  2. Select Add Account.
  3. Select Other > Add Mail Account.
  4. On the New Account screen, enter the following:

    Name   The name of the generic/user account that will be displayed to recipients. 
    Email  The generic/user account's email address, for example genericaccountname@soton.ac.uk
    Password  Your own university password.
    Description  A description of your choice, this is only used to identify the account on your device.



  5. Select Next.
  6. Make sure that IMAP is selected at the top of the screen.
  7. Scroll down to the Incoming Mail Server section and enter the following:

    Host name  outlook.office365.com 
    User Name youruniversityusername@soton.ac.uk/genericaccounname@soton.ac.uk (your university username must be in the format username@soton.ac.uk not a.username@soton.ac.uk
    Password Your university account password.



  8. Scroll down to the Outgoing Mail Server section and enter the following:

    Host name  smtp.office365.com 
    User Name youruniversityusername@soton.ac.uk (your university username must be in the format username@soton.ac.uk not a.username@soton.ac.uk
    Password Your university account password.



  9. Choose Next and wait for the server to verify your settings. When complete choose Save.
  10. You'll find the shared account in your Mail app, under Mailboxes, with the description name you gave it
