These guides will explain how to export your bookmarks in a HTML file, and how to import it back into your new browser.
The method used here is the HTML file export method, as it is the most universally compatible, and works well with the University systems. Please remember to save your HTML file in a networked location while exporting it.
Google Chrome
Export
- On your computer, open Chrome.
- At the top-right, click More .
- Select Bookmarks and then Bookmark Manager.
- At the top, click More, then Export Bookmarks.
Import
- On your computer, open Chrome.
- At the top-right, click More .
- Select Bookmarks Import Bookmarks and Settings.
- Select the HTML file that contains the bookmarks that you'd like to import.
- Click Import.
- Click Finished.

Mozilla Firefox
Export
- Click the menu button on your toolbar.
- Click Bookmarks, then click the Show All Bookmarks bar at the bottom.
- From the toolbar on the Library window, click Import and Backup and choose Export Bookmarks to HTML… from the drop-down menu.
- In the Export Bookmarks File window that opens, choose a location to save the file, which is named bookmarks.html by default.
- Click the Save button. The Export Bookmarks File window will close.
- Close the Library window.

Import
- Click the menu button on your toolbar.
- Click Bookmarks and then click the Show All Bookmarks bar at the bottom.
- From the toolbar on the Library window, click Import and Backup and choose Import Bookmarks from HTML...
- Within the Import Bookmarks File window that opens, navigate to the bookmarks HTML file you are importing and select the file.
- Click the Open button. The Import Bookmarks File window will close.
- Close the Library window.

Microsoft Edge
Export
- Launch the Microsoft browser.
- Select the icon "Settings and more" (three dots)
- Open the Favorites menu by clicking on the icon with the same name (star with three horizontal lines)
- Go to the More options ("...") menu
- Select “Export favorites”.
- Enter a name and a storage location for the bookmark file and click on “Save” to export your current Edge favorites.
Import
- Open Microsoft Edge and select Settings and more
- Select the option Favorites
- Select the icon More options (...)
- Select Import favorites
- In the Import from menu, choose whether you want to import your favorites from Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, or Mozilla Firefox.
- Under Choose what to import, select Favorites or bookmarks (you can also select other items).
- Select Import
- When the import is complete, you'll see a notification. Select Done. The folder may be called Imported

Another way to import your bookmarks
You can import your favorites/bookmarks from Internet Explorer to Edge by navigating to the following address in Edge: edge://settings/importData
This will load the following panel where you can select Internet Explorer to choose which items to import:

Safari
Export
- In the Safari app on your Mac, choose File and then Export Bookmarks.
The exported file is called “Safari Bookmarks.html”.
- To use the exported bookmarks in another browser, import the file named “Safari Bookmarks.html”.
Import
- In the Safari app on your Mac, choose:
- File
- Import From
- Bookmarks HTML File.
- Select the file you want to import.
- Click Import.
After you import bookmarks, they appear at the bottom of the sidebar in a new folder whose name begins with “Imported” and ends with the date.
