Managing Adobe profiles

More like this

This article gives an overview of the new Adobe sign-in experience and gives guidance on solving sign-in issues related to Business and Personal profiles.

What’s new

In September 2022, Adobe introduced a new sign-in experience for Adobe Creative Cloud users with many plans under one email address. These changes have an impact on users that have:

  • Many Adobe plans are associated with the same email address
    and
  • At least one of these plans is a business plan

For these users, Adobe creates separate profiles for each plan and gives each profile dedicated storage. Due to this, you will be asked to select a profile (“Business” or “Personal”) when signing in.

To find out which plans you currently have under the same email address, visit the webpage Adobe Account.

Possible issues while signing in

The new sign-in can affect users who have only purchased one Adobe application. That’s because the entitlement to this application may be under a different profile than the entitlement for Adobe Acrobat.

If you are facing issues with your profile or you are unable to sign in, try to:

  1. Log out of Adobe Creative Cloud
  2. Switch profiles using your university username and password. You will then be redirected from Adobe to the University’s external authentication portal.

If you have purchased the full Adobe Creative Cloud suite, you should not face sign-in issues. Adobe Acrobat is included in the profile with other applications.

Business and Personal profiles

Business profiles

Signing in with your university email and password, you will have access to the Adobe profile associated with that plan. This is a Business Profile.

Content stored in Business Profiles may be accessed or controlled by the organization that provides the business plan.

The content is only accessible to you and your plan administrator. It is not accessible to others on your team unless you share it with them.

Personal profiles

If you purchase an Adobe plan for individuals or sign up for a Creative Cloud free membership, then your Adobe profile is a Personal Profile. You maintain sole control over all the content in your Personal Profile.

Examples of individual plans include a Creative Cloud plan for individuals, a Creative Cloud free membership, or Acrobat Pro.

A Personal Profile only applies when you have an individual plan and at least one business plan associated with the same email address.

Only one Personal Profile is associated with an email address.

How to switch your profiles

You can switch your profile whenever you want by following the steps below:

  1. Sign off from your profile
  2. Sign in again with your credentials
  3. Select the account icon
  4. Select the right profile for you

How to select a profile automatically

If you have a Personal Profile and one or more Business Profiles, you can set up the Automatic profile selection setting to exclude your Personal Profile during sign-in.

By default, this setting is turned on for users with a mix of Personal and Business Profiles.

For users with only one profile (Business or Personal), it's turned off by default.

How to turn on the automatic profile selection

  1. Sign in to your Adobe Account with your university email and password.
  2. Select Account and security
Adobe menu bar containing the following buttons: Overview, Account and security, Plans and payment, Communication preferences
  3. Select Sign-in and security
  4. Enable the option Select my profile automatically
