Adobe Creative Cloud Files - Service shutdown

More like this

This article suggests what to do if you have synced files saved in Adobe’s Creative Cloud Files folders. The article gives an overview of Adobe's Creative Cloud Synced service and explains what changes will affect that storage option.

Overview of the changes

What and when

Adobe is discontinuing the Creative Cloud Synced Files storing option used for Adobe files.

On 01 / 10 / 2024, Adobe will stop providing that storing option for universities and other businesses under the following plans:

  • Creative Cloud for Teams
  • Creative Cloud for Enterprise plans

This action follows the changes done to personal accounts on 01 / 02 / 2024. At that time, the service was discontinued for users with personal accounts and copies of their files in cloud storage were erased. The Creative Cloud Files folder on the local device was not affected: all files remained in that local folder - hidden folder(s) became visible.

What are synced files

Synced files are files saved in a local folder called “Creative Cloud Files”. This folder is in your computer and its files are copied in Adobe’s cloud-based folder called “Creative Cloud Files”. This happens through a synchronization service between the device and cloud storage.

Synced files differ from other cloud files saved in Adobe’s cloud website or libraries, as described in Adobe’s infographic below:

Also, Synced files offer limited functionality and compatibility with other and newer file formats.

Description of the change

What happens next

From 01 / 10 / 2024, Adobe will stop its Creative Cloud desktop synchronization service. What you will see after that date:

  • Files in your Creative Cloud Files folder will no longer be copied to cloud storage
  • Files and folders shared from Synced files will no longer be accessible by others inside your organization or externally
  • Adobe will begin to remove the Synced files section on the Creative Cloud website
  • Adobe will permanently delete the assets within the cloud storage folder Synced files.

What you need to do

You do not need to take any action if:

  • You do not usually save files / assets to the Creative Cloud Synced files
  • You did not save files / assets to the Creative Cloud Synced files in the past

You need to take action if you have saved any files on Creative Cloud Synced. We recommend to:

  • Check your files
  • Move your files to OneDrive before 02 / 10 / 2024

Your files could be deleted at any point after this, we have no control or influence over the Adobe schedule for this process.
