This article provides a short overview of CourseArc and explains the benefits of using Blackboard Ultra when a CourseArc licence is not available.
CourseArc is a cloud-based content authoring and management platform designed to help educators and instructional designers create interactive, accessible, and media-rich online learning materials. In a higher education setting, it is typically used to:
Following the original pilot of CourseArc, the Digital Learning Team have been supporting a small (50 licences) CoursArc service. Due to funding constraints, licences have been capped and we will not be expanding the service past this current scale.
---
Whilst we believe that CourseArc functionality is pedagogically useful, this will be superseded by Blackboard Ultra and other supported tools in the near future.
Blackboard Ultra Documents, in particular, are a fantastic way to present mixed media within the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) for your students. They function like a webpage for module content built into Blackboard Ultra and can include:
User friendly content can be arranged in blocks to clearly introduce information and interwoven knowledge check questions to engage students.
---
Now that we have migrated to the Blackboard Ultra VLE with this new functionality, the Digital Learning team is conducting a review with the original pilot group to determine the value and effectiveness of Coursearc as a teaching tool. We would very much welcome CourseArc feedback and insights into your current usage.
If you would like advice about how Blackboard Ultra may be able to replicate some CourseArc functionality, please contact the Digital Learning Team.
