How to print using the university printers from your own device (BYOD - bring your own device)
You can print your documents from a University of Southampton (UoS) issued computer to the university print service. We offer two types of printers:
You can print using Windows, macOS, or Linux computer.
This article is for University staff using laptops and desktops managed by iSolutions.
You do not need to follow this article if you are using:
These computers have the printer queues automatically configured. Printers are called BlackWhite and Colour on staff.myprint.soton.ac.uk or student.myprint.soton.ac.uk

If you have any problem installing a printer, please contact ServiceLine. When you contract ServiceLine, please provide the following information:
Install the printer
Printing your documents
University managed computer with a name like UOS-alphanumeric (for example: UOS-A1B2345)
You will need to add the printers from Additional Software on the desktop by installing "Add University Printers". You can do it while on site or connected to VPN.
You can install University printers to your computer clicking on:
Instructions:
1. Click on one of the two options, it will appear a new window
2. Type “printer’ into the search filed
3. Double click on the “Add University Printers” icon. You can select both BlackWhite and Colour printers
Staff not using a University managed computer (for example bespoke machines)
1. Type \\staff.myprint.soton.ac.uk into the Windows search field
2. Click on the “Open” link or on the computer icon. It will appear a new window
3. Double-click on the “BlackWhite” icon and / or the “Colour” icon
1. Type \\staff.myprint.soton.ac.uk into the Windows search field
2. Click on the “Open” link or on the computer icon. It will appear a new window
3. Double-click on the ID number of the printer you want to install
Please note: due to the current restrictions of the print service, macOS users cannot use the full functionalities of the MFDs (for example: stapling). If you need the full functionality of an MFD, please use a Windows computer or print from the Southampton Virtual Environment.
1. Connect to be the university network via cable, Eduroam or VPN
2. In a web browser go to the site https://uniprint.soton.ac.uk/
3. Select download
4. Double click on the .dmg file downloaded
5. Double click on the .pkg file
6. Agree to the terms of the software license agreement
7. Type your username (for example: abc12de22, not abc12de22@soton.ac.uk) and your password, then click on “Install Software”
Computers using Linux have the printer queues automatically configured. Printers are called BlackWhite and Colour on staff.myprint.soton.ac.uk
If you are using Ubuntu, download the following instructions.
There are 2 ways to print documents:
1. Connect to be the university network via cable, Eduroam or VPN
2. Open your document
3. Click on File and the Print
4. Chose the printer ("BlackWhite" or "Colour" or the "PR-ID12345) and the setting you want, then click on the Print icon
There are 2 ways to print documents using macOS:
1. Open your document
2. Click on File and the Print
3. Select the printer you want to use
4. During your first print you will have to insert your username (for example: abc12de22) and password. You can chose to remember them so you don’t have to insert them again in the future
5. Click OK to print
There are 2 ways to print documents:
1. Connect to be the university network via cable, Eduroam or VPN

3. Click on File and the Print
4. Chose the printer and the setting you want, then click on the Print icon
1.Go to myprint.soton.ac.uk using a web browser (for example: Edge, Chrome, Firefox, Safari)
2. Insert your username (for example: abc12de22, not abc12de22@soton.ac.uk) and password, then click Log in
3. Click on Web Print
4. Click on Submit a Job
5. Select a printer and then click on Print options and Account Section
6. Click on Upload Documents
7. Upload or drag and drop your file, then click on Upload and Complete

There are many ways to print A3-sized documents. You can do it using:
Please note that you cannot print A3-size documents from the portal Myprint.
1. Open your document
2. Click on ‘File’ or ctrl+P
3. Scroll down the menu on your left and select the right settings for:
4. Click on the ‘Print’ button on the top

4. Click on the 'Paper' label
5. Go to the ‘Paper options’ section and select the right settings for:

7. Control the remaining settings under the 'Settings section'
8. Click on the 'Print' button on the top
1. Open your file using Adobe Acrobat DC. You can find guidance on downloading and installing the software in the article “How to download and install Adobe Acrobat DC”
2. Click on the Print icon or go to 'File' > 'Print'
3. Click on 'Page setup' on the bottom left of the window
4. Select "A3" and confirm by clicking on ‘OK’
5. Check the other settings (Pages to print, …) and click on 'Print' once you are ready
