Windows 10 Upgrade Notification

Guidance on updating Windows 10 computers as soon as users receive a notification asking for installing the new version.

You may receive a notification asking to update your system to the latest version of Windows 10.

The notification will appear at the bottom right of your screen and looks like this:

Step-by-step instructions

1. The notification has three buttons "Install Now", "Learn More" and "Dismiss".

2. Clicking on the "Install Now" button will start the Windows upgrade process:

3. A new Screen will appear indicating that the update is "Downloading", as in the example below:

4. Once the update is fully downloaded, it will begin installing. This process can take between 30 minutes to 1 hour depending on your system.

You can continue working on your computer whilst the installation is in progress.

5. A computer restart is required to complete the upgrade, you will notice a "Restart" button appear:

6. Clicking the "Restart" button will bring up a reminder to save all your work before the restart takes place:

7. Your PC will probably restart several times during the restart process. You will see the following screen as your computer is upgraded:

Depending on your system this can take between 40 minutes up to 3 hours so we recommend you restart the PC at the end of your working day.

8. Once the upgrade is complete you will see the login screen as normal:

What to do if you want to run the update later

If you dismiss the application but would like to run the upgrade later in the day, please:

1. Navigate to the Start menu

2. Select the "Additional Software" icon:

3. Select the "Updates" tab, select the update and hit "Install":
