Upgrading ArcGIS to the latest version

If you have ArcGIS pro installed on a staff desktop, it can be updated in one of two ways to switch over to Named User Licensing:

1. Update to ArcGIS Pro 3.3 from:

This version of ArcGIS (ArcGIS Pro 3.3) has been configured with Named User Licensing.

This will remove any previous installed versions of ArcGIS Pro.

2. Run the ArcGIS Pro Change to Named User License app in Software Centre. This will reconfigure your install of ArcGIS Pro to use Named User Licensing - this means that you will log in by using your university username (for example: ab1c24).

This will not remove or update the software in any way.

Screen called "ArcGIS Pro Change to named user license" showing the uninstall button

Please note:

  • From 01/08/2024 an update will be sent to staff desktops where ArcGIS Pro is installed. This will reconfigure the software to use Named User Licensing, and will not remove or update the software in any way.
  • The first time you log in to ArcGIS Pro or ArcGIS Online, an account will be automatically created for them. You will not need to do anything else tor request an account to use the software.

Using your Federated ID to login

Use of ArcGIS Pro Off-line licenses

iSolutions do not generally recommend the use of offline licenses for ArcGIS Pro.

If you are in a location with internet access, it is recommended that you login to ArcGIS Pro to license it.

If you decide to take a license off-line, there are several issues you must be aware of:

  • When you take a license off-line, this will be the only place that the software can be run.
  • With ArcGIS Named User Licensing, you can run the software simultaneously on 3 machines. Taking a license off-line will limit you to that single machine. You will not be able to run the software on any CLS machines, Azure Virtual Desktop, or another desktop/laptop till you return the license.
  • The license can then only then be returned on that machine. iSolutions does not have the ability to return a license remotely. The ability to return the license will be lost if the machine is:
    • lost
    • stolen
    • needs to be rebuilt.
A support call is needed to Esri to clear this and can take up to 48 hours.

If you plan to use ArcGIS Pro Off-campus on a field build laptop, please contact Serviceline. Our technicians can create a special ArcGIS account for you.
