How to uninstall Symantec antivirus software from University Windows devices

This article gives guidance on uninstalling Symantec antivirus from University devices using Windows.

Checking to see if Symantec Endpoint Protection is installed on your device

For Windows 7 or 8/8.1 devices

  1. Go to the Start Menu
  2. Within the Search programs and files bar, type "Add and Remove Programs"
  3. Select "Add and Remove Programs" under Settings
  4. Search for "Symantec Endpoint Protection" within the list:

For Windows 10 devices

  1. Go to the Search Bar 
    ""
  2. Type “Apps & Features” and select "Apps & Features" under System Settings
  3. Search for "Symantec Endpoint Protection" within the list. Symantec's icon will appear like the following one:

If Symantec appears on your device, please follow Uninstalling Symantec Endpoint Protection from your device. 

Uninstalling Symantec Endpoint Protection from your device

For Windows 7 and 8/8.1 devices

Please follow the guide follow the guide "Windows 7 – How to properly uninstall programs" to understand how to uninstall programs from your device. The support guide demonstrates how to uninstall “Beyond Compare Version 2.5.3”, please select “Symantec Endpoint Protection”.

For Windows 10 devices

Please follow "Uninstall or remove apps and programs from Windows" to understand how to uninstall programs from your device. Please ensure you select "Symantec Endpoint Protection".

Uninstall from the Settings page

  1. Once you have opened "Apps & Features", you can simply remove it by selecting "Uninstall"



  2. The software will automatically uninstall



    and then prompt for a reboot to complete

     

Updating your device with the latest antivirus software

Having uninstalled Symantec anti-virus software, your device may be vulnerable to potential cyber threats. 

If your device is managed by iSolutions, Windows Defender should be automatically installed.

If the device is not managed by iSolutions, you will want to make sure antivirus protection has been installed and is kept up to date. For advice on antivirus software, please follow the article "What is an antivirus product? Do I need one?" on the National Cyber Security Centre’s (NCSC) website.
