How to find the Asset number of a University-owned device

This article explains how to find the Asset Number (once called Asset Tag) on a device owned by the University of Southampton or managed by iSolutions.

How to find the Asset Number on a computer

Stickers on Dell laptops and desktops deployed after 2020

You can see them:

  • underneath the laptop
  • on the top of the desktop.

Stickers on bespoke computers and Apple Macs

You can see them anywhere on the device / desktop.

You can see them underneath the laptop or on the top of the tablet / Windows Surface.

 

How to find the Asset Number from Windows settings

If the sticker on your Windows computer is worn out, you can find it as follow:

1. Select the "Start button"

2. Select "Settings"

3. Select "System"

4. Scroll down and select "About"

5. The device's asset number will appear listed under the section "Device specifications" as "Device name"

How to find the Asset Number from Apple macOS settings

If the sticker on your Windows computer is worn out, you can find it as follow:

1. Select the Apple icon in the menu bar

2. Select "About This Mac" rom the drop-down menu

3. Select the button "More info"

4.  The device's asset number will appear listed under the section "Device specifications" as "Device name"

Please note: after signing in with your Apple ID on Ventura, it might happen that the device's name appears as your name (for example: "Name's MacBook Pro") rather then showing the Asset number.
