Requesting LAMP hosting space for coursework

This article explains how to request LAMP hosting for coursework and how to access the coursework’s folder.

Overview of LAMP

LAMP is an acronym and stands for the following elements used to provide the service:

  • Linux (RHEL8), the operating system
  • Apache, the web server
  • MySQL, the database server
  • PHP, the programming language

All four of these technologies are open source. Developers use LAMP stacks to create, host, and maintain web content.

Lecturers and students can request LAMP web hosting for coursework.

LAMP upgrades and archiving

Each summer the platform will be upgraded. All sites will be:

  • Taken offline
  • Archived
  • Retained for 1 year

Sites can be kept online at request. The owner will need to manage them and to ensure compatibility with the upgraded platform.

If you need to keep your site online for longer, please raise a ticket with ServiceLine. Before raising your request, please remember that the content owner will have to ensure that their code is compatible with the summer upgrades.
