Common Learning Spaces (CLS) workstation rooms

This article describes what a workstation room is and gives instruction on finding workstation rooms on Highfield campus and at all University locations using the Campus map.

Overview of workstation rooms

A workstation room (also known as Public Workstations, or Common Learning Space - CLS) is a room supplied with university-own computers and a selection of printers, scanners, CD and DVD writers for use by any student or member of staff.

Those computers have an extensive software portfolio already installed and ready to be used. Some of those computers have been set up to support students and they might have software for specific classes or purposes.

To know more about software availability on Southampton Virtual Environment (SVE) and Workstation rooms, please check the SharePoint site “Software”.

How to log in

You can have access to every public workstation by using:

  • Your university username
    and
  • Your university password.

Please remember to:

  • Avoid logging on and then leave the computer alone
  • Keep in mind that someone else might need to use
  • Log out when you do not need to use it any longer

Opening time

Opening times depend on the availability of the building. Some buildings have 24-7 (24 hours seven days a week) access, other are limited outside the term time.
