This article gives you an overview of the Blackboard Ultra Migration Project and explains the difference between Ultra and Original. The article also provides a link to help articles.
Blackboard, our virtual learning environment (VLE), is a core system used by students and staff across the University.
As we all know technology develops rapidly and it has been announced that Blackboard Original (current platform) will no longer receive further developments. We are also aware that a significant amount of our courses are falling below accessibility standards, so change is essential.
Over the next three years (2023 – 2026), the project aims to upgrade your Blackboard experience by helping you migrate modules from the current VLE to the latest, more enhanced version of the platform, Blackboard Ultra. The migration will happen in waves, please visit the project overview for more information.

The way you access your modules will not change. You will access your modules by selecting the Courses button on the Blackboard Landing Page.
---
To understand whether you are working with an Original module or an Ultra module, you will need to view your module(s) within the Course Menu.
Access instructions on how to identify the module type as well as understanding the layout differences by visiting this eLearn guide, "Blackboard – the difference between Original and Ultra modules."

The Staff Development Programme provides staff with valuable support and development opportunities. It is a chance to learn about Blackboard Ultra, develop your skills and collaborate with our Learning Technologists and Designers.
The Programme consists of both online learning materials you can access at your own pace, as well as online and in-person sessions. Visit the Staff Development Programme to understand what’s available.
