Accessing and using REDCap

This articles guides you on accessing REDCap and provides helpful information such as providing access to external collaborators and finding training videos.

 

Overview

REDCap is a web-based survey and database platform that is specifically geared to support online and offline data capture for research studies and operations. 

REDCap can be used to collect virtually any type of data in any environment and as a platform is suitable for complying with GDPR and similar international regulations.

How to use REDCAP

The best way to Learn how to use REDCap is to use the built-in tutorials and help articles.

Getting access to REDCap

To gain access to REDCap you will need to email ServiceLine requesting to be added to the REDCap user group.

Signing into REDCap

To sign into REDCap:

1. From your browser, open REDCap

2. Select Log in using University login button to access the service through Single Sign-On authentication:

You might be asked to confirm you identity through Microsoft Authenticator.

REDCap Help and Frequent Asked Questions (FAQs)

This tab opens a comprehensive list of articles to help you get started in various areas, including "Project Setup / Design", "Data Entry / Collection" and many more:

You can browse by category or use the search bar instead to browse all articles for key words.

REDCap Training Videos

You may also want to use the platforms built in Training Video library:

These provide much of the same content and advice as the FAQs, but are more geared towards new users.

This is not as in depth as the built in documentation but can help you decide if REDCap is right for you.

Giving an external collaborator access

To provide an external collaborator access to your project, you will need to:

This will make them known to our systems and allow them to be added to REDCap.

You will then need to email ServiceLine to request their email address is added to REDCap. If your external partner changes their email address during the project, you will need to repeat this process.
