ESRI ArcGIS is a geographic information system (GIS) for working with maps and geographic data. This article guides students and staff on:
- finding ESRI ArcGIS on all Common Learning Space (CLS) computers
- installing ESRI ArcGIS Pro from the Software Center on university-owned computers
- installing ESRI ArcGIS and ArcGIS Pro from the University of Southampton Software Download Service
The software can only be used in the UK and Ireland unless an overseas form is completed and approved by the supplier.

Accessing from a CLS computer
ArcGIS is available on all Common Learning Spaces (CLSs) computers by following the path below:
- Start
- All Programs
- Geographic Information Systems
Downloading the software from the University of Southampton Software Download Service
You can download ArcGIS for use at home by opening the University of Southampton Software Download Service and looking for it:
Alternatively, media can be borrowed from the Library.

Instructions for staff
You can download and install ArcGIS Pro using the "Software Center" icon on your desktop or from the University of Southampton Software Download Service. Staff can also access ArcGIS from all Common Learning Spaces (CLSs) computers.
iSolutions recommends staff downloading and installing ArcGIS Pro instead of ArcGIS. If you need the latter, please request it by raising a ticket to ServiceLine.

ArcGIS is available on all Common Learning Spaces (CLSs) computers by following the path below:
- Start
- All Programs
- Geographic Information Systems
Downloading ArcGIS from the Software Center
- Find and double-click the "Software Center" icon on your desk
- Enter ArcGIS into the search field
- Press Enter
You will see then the options available for you:
