Due to a certificate issue we are having to push out an urgent change to WebSIS. This article will cover the steps you will need to take to ensure the application continues to function correctly.
These instructions are mainly for university-owned computers running Windows 10 (with some information for personal Windows and Apple macOS devices) and will not work on:
Without the changes applied, you will see this error message:
---
1. Close the error message
2. Turn off your computer
3. Turn on the laptop to apply again the group policy settings
4. Open WebSIS
5. You will see a warning message saying "Running this application may be a security risk"
6. Tick the box next to "I accept the risk and want to run this application"
7. Select the button "Run"
WebSIS should then run correctly. If not, you will need to contact ServiceLine.
---
1. Close the error message
2. From the search field close to the Start menu, type "Add or remove programs" and launch it
3. Find all Java related programs and uninstall them
4. You will need to reinstall Java from the Software Center. This is because there are additional files included there that are necessary for the application to run.
You can open the Software Center from:
5. Search for Java JRE 8 update 181 and install.
6. Once complete, you will need to restart your PC to apply to updates
7. Open WebSIS
8. You will see a warning message saying "Running this application may be a security risk"
9. Tick the box next to "I accept the risk and want to run this application"
10. Select the button "Run".
WebSIS should then run correctly. If not, you will need to contact ServiceLine.
---
If you are using one of the home use university-owned desktops (handed out early in the Covid response), you will need to ensure that the PC can receive the updates before restarting:
1. Start the PC
2. Connect to Global Protect
3. From the Windows search bar close to the start icon, type "Command prompt" or "CMD"
4. Open the Command Prompt
5. Type gpupdate /force (please note that there is a space between gpudate and the slash) to apply the updates, until you receive confirmation this has completed successfully
6. Restart your PC
If you are struggling with this process, please contact ServiceLine.
7. You can now open WebSIS. You will see a warning message saying "Running this application may be a security risk"
8. Tick the box next to "I accept the risk and want to run this application"
9. Select the button "Run".
WebSIS should then run correctly. If not, you will need to contact ServiceLine.
---
If you are using a BYOD (Bring your own device) your personal device, you will need to manually apply the website exceptions as follows:
1. From the Windows search bar close to the start icon, type "Control Panel"
2. Open the Control Panel
3. Select the Java icon
4. From there,
5. In the new window
6. Once complete, open WebSIS
7. You will see a warning message saying "Running this application may be a security risk"
8. Tick the box next to "I accept the risk and want to run this application"
9. Select the button "Run".
WebSIS should then run correctly. If not, you will need to contact ServiceLine.

iSolutions is not supporting WebSIS on Apple computers, though you can find further guidance in the Java Help Resources at the following pages:
The links above should cover how to add an exception. The site that would need to be added is https://www.adminservices.soton.ac.uk
